About Nick Barker
Nick’s an ordinary amateur cyclist who usually finishes in the middle of the pack. However, like many Nick is very determined and has managed his motivation year-on-year over the last 17 years, even with some major life obstacles, to successfully complete many of Europe’s iconic challenging sportives, Gran Fondos and difficult amateur challenge events including:
- 2006 Etape (a single public stage of the Tour de France)
- UK's Land's end to John o'groate
- 260km Paris-Roubaix
- Italy's Milan-San Remo Gran Fondo
- Leige-Bastone-Leige in Belgium
- UK's Fred Whitton Challenge
- 1200km Paris-Brest-Paris audax; a full amateur Tour de France
Through structured training, periodisation and off-seasons Nick’s set goals, made plans, and kept to them or sometimes missed them. He’s gone deep into his willpower reserves to maintain his motivation to prepare and get over the finish lines each year. In writing ‘Chasing the Pros’ Nick has studied both amateur and pro cyclists to discover how amateur sporting events can help us find balance in life, bring satisfaction and a bit more happiness. This is not a coaching manual – it’s much more…
